A private Culebra charter from Fajardo's Puerto del Rey Marina reaches Flamenco Beach in 60 to 90 minutes by power vessel, or about 2 hours under sail. Most full-day trips anchor at Flamenco for lunch, snorkel at Carlos Rosario reef, and stop at Tamarindo for sea turtles before returning. Catamarans, motor yachts, and sailing yachts are all available — we match the vessel to your group size and itinerary.

Culebra is the #1 day-trip and charter destination in Puerto Rico for a simple reason: Flamenco Beach is consistently ranked among the world's top beaches (Travel + Leisure, Discovery Channel), and the surrounding reefs at Carlos Rosario, Tamarindo, and Culebrita offer some of the clearest snorkeling in the Caribbean. For background on what to expect on the ground, see our Culebra day-trip itinerary or the destination guide.
Five reasons Culebra outranks every other Puerto Rico charter destination on customer satisfaction.
Consistently ranked among the world's top 10 beaches by Travel + Leisure and Discovery Channel. Mile-long crescent of white sand, no high-rise development, calm shallow swimming.
Carlos Rosario is widely considered the best reef snorkeling in Puerto Rico — turtles, rays, and 30+ feet of visibility most days. Tamarindo offers reliable sea turtle sightings.
Full-day Culebra charters typically anchor at 2–3 spots: Flamenco for the beach, Carlos Rosario for snorkeling, plus either Tamarindo or Punta Soldado for variety.
17 nautical miles from Puerto del Rey Marina. Power catamarans and motor yachts make the trip in 60–90 minutes. Sailing catamarans take about 2 hours.
Public ferries deposit hundreds of day-trippers at Flamenco. A private charter anchors offshore where the crowd is thinner — and can move to quieter beaches like Tamarindo or Punta Soldado at any time.
Four vessel categories work well for Culebra. The right choice depends on your group size, trip length, and priorities.
Best for: Full-day Culebra trips, large groups (15–40), kids and seasickness-prone guests
Fastest crossing (60–75 minutes), most stable ride, largest deck space. The most popular vessel type for Culebra charters because it combines speed with comfort.
Best for: Couples and small groups (4–12), eco-conscious travel, quieter days
Slightly longer crossing (about 2 hours) but quieter, more intimate, and better fuel economy. Often the best option for sunset returns from Culebra.
Best for: Luxury day trips, multi-day overnights, special occasions (10–20 guests)
Air-conditioned interior, full galley, multiple cabins for overnight trips, premium service. Slightly more expensive per day but unmatched comfort.
Best for: Small groups (4–8), time-sensitive itineraries, combined fishing-and-snorkel trips
Fastest of all options (45–60 minutes to Culebra) and most flexible itineraries. Less deck space and less stable than catamarans for full-day comfort.
Most full-day Culebra charters visit 2–3 anchorages. Here are the highlights.
The signature stop. Mile-long crescent of white sand, calm shallow swimming, public beach with restrooms. Anchor offshore or shuttle in by dinghy.
Best snorkeling reef on Culebra — and arguably in Puerto Rico. Coral structure, turtles, rays, and 30+ feet of visibility on most days. Short dinghy ride from Flamenco.
Reliable sea turtle sightings (green and hawksbill). Sandy bottom, easy anchoring. Quieter than Flamenco, popular for the snorkel-with-turtles experience.
South-coast anchorage with calm waters protected from north swell. Healthy reef, less crowded than Carlos Rosario. Good lunch stop on the way back from Flamenco.
Small island off Culebra's east end. The Jacuzzi tide pools and Playa Tortuga are the highlights. Add-on stop on multi-day charters or longer full-day trips.

Three core formats cover most Culebra charters.
8 hours
The standard Culebra trip. Depart Fajardo around 8–9 AM, return by 5–6 PM. Lunch at anchor at Flamenco, snorkel at Carlos Rosario, optional stop at Tamarindo or Punta Soldado. Custom-quoted by vessel.
5–6 hours
Possible only on speedboats and sport-fishing vessels with the fastest crossings. One anchorage stop (usually Flamenco), one snorkel reef. Tight on time but doable.
2+ nights
Anchor overnight at Culebra. Explore Culebrita, multiple Culebra reefs, and add Vieques or the Spanish Virgin Islands to the itinerary. Available on yachts with sleeping accommodation. See multi-day charter guide.
“We booked a full-day charter for my husband's birthday and it exceeded every expectation. Snorkeling…”
Culebra charters are custom-quoted per vessel and trip length. All quotes include captain, crew, fuel for the crossing, ice, water, and basic snorkeling gear. Per-vessel pricing — split across your group keeps the per-person cost reasonable for groups of 6 or more.
Sailing catamarans are typically the lowest tier; motor yachts and luxury sport-fishing vessels carry the highest. Each vessel is priced individually based on size, age, and amenities.
Full-day charters are the most common; half-day Culebra (fast vessels only) is lower; multi-day overnight charters are higher per night but lower per hour.
The 17-nautical-mile crossing both ways uses meaningful fuel — especially on power yachts. Quotes line-item fuel based on planned vessel and itinerary.
Open bar, catering, water toys (paddleboards, kayaks, snorkel masks for large groups), DJ service. All optional, all separately priced.
Culebra charters are custom-quoted per vessel and trip length. Full-day charters (the standard format) run 8 hours; half-day Culebra trips on fast vessels run 5–6 hours; multi-day overnight charters run 2+ nights. Each vessel is priced for the full boat (not per person) with captain, crew, fuel, ice, water, and basic snorkeling gear included. Contact us for a quote based on your group size and dates.
Culebra charters depart from Puerto del Rey Marina in Fajardo on Puerto Rico's east coast — the closest port to Culebra (17 nautical miles). Fajardo is roughly a 1-hour drive from San Juan. Ample free parking, restrooms, and provisioning at the marina.
From Puerto del Rey Marina in Fajardo: power catamarans and motor yachts make the crossing in 60–90 minutes; sport-fishing speedboats can do it in 45–60 minutes; sailing catamarans take about 2 hours. Winter trade winds (December through March) can extend crossings by 15–30 minutes.
The public ferry is cheap but unreliable — same-day round-trip is hard, the schedule is variable, and Flamenco Beach gets very crowded with ferry day-trippers. A private charter gives you direct anchorage at Flamenco offshore (less crowd), the ability to snorkel multiple reefs in a day, optional stops at Tamarindo or Punta Soldado, and a guaranteed return time.
Power catamarans are the most popular for full-day Culebra trips — fast crossing, stable ride, and large deck space for groups of 15 to 40. Sailing catamarans suit smaller groups looking for a quieter experience. Motor yachts are best for luxury day trips and multi-day overnight charters. Sport-fishing speedboats are best for small groups wanting to combine fishing on the crossing with snorkeling at Culebra.
Most full-day Culebra charters anchor at 2–3 spots: Flamenco Beach for the iconic stop, Carlos Rosario reef for snorkeling, and one of Tamarindo (sea turtles) or Punta Soldado (south-coast reef). Multi-day charters add Culebrita's Jacuzzi tide pools and Playa Tortuga.
Yes — Culebra is one of the best family charter destinations in Puerto Rico. Flamenco Beach has very shallow, calm water; Carlos Rosario has lots of easy-to-spot reef life (turtles, rays, fish); the boat ride is short enough that kids don't get bored. Catamarans are the most kid-friendly vessel type for the crossing. USCG-approved child-sized life jackets are provided.
Yes — multi-day overnight charters anchor in protected bays around Culebra (Dakity, Ensenada Honda) and let you explore multiple reefs, Culebrita, and optionally extend to Vieques or the Spanish Virgin Islands. Available on motor yachts and sailing yachts with sleeping accommodation. See our multi-day charter guide for itinerary options.
